President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Mr. Merab Turava attends a working meeting on the issues of legislative regulation of publishing judiciary acts and personal data protection

The President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Mr. Merab Turava participated in the working meeting on legislative regulation of publishing judiciary acts and personal data protection held at the hotel Hilton Batumi.

The President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia addressed the participants and focused attention to the decision of June 7, 2019 of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, as the result of which the normative content of the disputable provision of the General Administrative Code and of the Law of Georgia on Personal Data Protection which excludes releasing in the form of public information of the full text of the court acts adopted at the open Court hearing was declared as unconstitutional.

Mr. Merab Turava thanked leader and the team of EU Judiciary Support Program for organizing the working meeting and long-term and close cooperation with the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

Invited guests were also addressed with speeches by the Chair of the Legal Issues Committee at the Parliament of Georgia Mr. Anri Okhanashvili, EU4Justice Judiciary Support Program director Ms. Renate Winter, Secretary of the High Council of Justice of Georgia Mr. Giorgi Mikautadze and the State Inspector Ms. Londa Toloraia.

At the two-day working meeting held in Batumi a presentation of the research on the theme: “Balance set by the Constitution between the right to public access to judiciary acts and the right to defending of the protection of the personal data from accessibility” by the Professor in the field of Administrative Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Senior Expert of the EU Judiciary Support Program in Georgia and a former member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Ms. Maia Kopaleishvili was made. Besides this, a draft project of the legislative amendments developed by the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia was reviewed.

The event held in the frame of EU4Justice Judiciary Support Program in Georgia is attended by the representatives of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, the Parliament of Georgia, State Inspector's Office, Supreme Court of Georgia and Civil Society Organizations.
