Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia
On July 22, the Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia was officially opened. The Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Mr. Teimuraz Tugushi, a Team Leader EU4Justice Judiciary Support Project Justice Renate Winter; a representative of the project EWMI/PROLoG - Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia Activity Ms. Mariam Vardosanidze greeted the participants.
During two weeks, the participants of the Summer School will attend the lectures on various topical issues in the field of constitutional law, including the specificities of exercising constitutional control in the US and Europe, standards for limitation of human rights, as well as the issues of secret surveillance and personal data protection.
The participants of the Summer School will be enabled to get introduced with the case law of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, Supreme Court of the Unites States of America, European Court of Human Rights and EU Judiciary, as well as to participate in the Moot Court Sessions.
The lectures of the Summer School will be delivered by the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Mr. Teimuraz Tugushi, a Team Leader EU4Justice - Judiciary Support Project Justice Renate Winter; as well as invited Professors and Experts: Jason C DeSanto, a Senior Lecturer, Northwestern University School of Law (USA); Professor Richard Vogler, Professor of Comparative Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, Solicitor, University of Sussex; Senior International Expert (UK); Dr Nora Ni Loideain, Director and Lecturer in Law, Information Law & Policy Centre; School of Advanced Study | University of London (UK); Tamar Kaldani, State Inspector of Georgia (2013-2019); Davit Gabekhadze, Head of the Legal Provision Department at LEPL Operative Technical Agency; Givi Bagdavadze – Head of Head of the International Relations Division of Legal Support Department of the Chief Prosecutors’ Office of Georgia.
The aim of the Summer School of the Constitutional Court is to raise professional knowledge of future lawyers in the Constitutional and Human Rights Law.
For participation in the Summer School, 28 best students from the Law Faculty were selected from the Universities of Georgia. Furthermore, It is noteworthy that the best participants of the Summer School will be able to start his/her professional activity through internship and further employment at the court.
This year, the Constitutional Court of Georgia is hosting the 12th Summer School, which is held with the financial support of EU4Justice Judiciary Support Program, USAID Funded EWMI-PROLoG Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia and in partnership with Grigol Robakidze University.
It shall be also mentioned that the graduates of the Summer School occupy leading positions in public as well as private sector, which serves as the testament to the project's success. The Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia will be completed on August 1, 2019.
