Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Started

On July 18, 2022 the Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia on Constitutional and Human Rights Law was officially opened.

Prof. Dr. Merab Turava, President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, Mr. GiorgiChkheidze, USAID/Georgia Rule of Law Program Chief of Party, Ms. Rusudan Tabatadze, the Rule of Law Program Manager at the USAID/Caucasus, and Mr. Ushangi Tabatadze, Senior Project Officer at the Council of Europe’s Office in Georgia addressed the students. A nine-day study programme covers the following topics:

 Different Models of Judicial (Constitutional) Review;
 Health Crisis and Emergency Governance: Standards of Limitation of Human Rights in
U.S., Europe and Georgia;
 Data Protection, Surveillance and the Right to Privacy from European and U.S.
Perspectives.

The participants of the Summer School will be introduced with the case law of the Constitutional
Court of Georgia, Supreme Court of the Unites States of America, European Court of Human
Rights and EU Judiciary, as well as participate in the Moot Court Sessions.
The lectures of the Summer School will be delivered by:
 Mr. Teimuraz Tughushi, Justice of the Constitutional Court of Georgia;
 Ms. Caroline Fredrickson, Distinguished Visiting Professor from Practice at Georgetown
Law Center, President of the American Constitution Society (2009-2019);
 Mr. Wojciech Sadurski, Polish and Australian scholar of constitutional law; Challis
Professor in Jurisprudence;
 Mr. Matthew Kugler, Associate Professor of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law;
 Ms. Veronika Bilkova, Associate Professor of the University of Cambridge, Co-Director,
Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law (CIPIL); Venice Commission
Member, ESIL Vice-President, Faculty of Law, Charles University PhD. E.MA;
 Mr. Daniel B. Rodriguez, the Harold Washington Professor of Law, Pritzker School of
Law, Northwestern University, Dean of the Pritzker Law School (2012-2018);
 Mr. Irakli Ksovreli, Head of the Legal Provision and Research Department,
Constitutional Court of Georgia;
 Ms. Lela Janashvili, Head of the Personal Data Protection Service;
 Mr. Giorgi Burjanadze, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia;
 Mr. Davit Gabekhadze, Head of the Legal Provision at LEPL Operative-Technical
Agency;
 Mr. Levan Maisuradze, Constitutional Law Expert, Lawyer at the Georgian National
Communications Commission.

22 law faculty students from top Universities in Georgia have been selected in an open call to participate in this year’s summer school. The best participants of the Summer School will be offered internship by the Constitutional Court and will have further employment opportunity. This year, the Constitutional Court of Georgia hosts the 14 th  Summer School, which is held with the financial support of EU/CoE co-funded Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia Programme and the USAID’s Rule of Law Program.

The graduates of the Summer School Programme hold leading positions both in public and private sectors, which is a testament to the project's success.

The Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia will be completed on July 26, 2022.
