Summer School
The summer school of the Constitutional Court has ended
Today, the summer school of the Constitutional Court of Georgia - "Constitutional and Human Rights Law" - ended.
The students were congratulated on the successful completion of the summer school and were presented with certificates of participation by Vice President of the Constitutional Court, Ms. Manana Kobakhidze, as well as the senior project officers of the Georgia Office of the Council of Europe: Mr. Giorgi Giorgadze and Mr. Levan Meskhoradze.
The school's curriculum included the following topics: models of constitutional (judicial) review in the US and Europe; The right to equality and non-discrimination: standards in the USA, Europe and Georgia; Freedom of information in a constitutional democracy: standards in the USA, Europe and Georgia.
The lectures of the summer school were led by Teimuraz Tughushi, Justice of the Constitutional Court of Georgia; Bill Bowring, Professor of law at Birkbeck College, University of London (UK); Director of the LLM/MA in Human Rights; Jonathan Manes, Adjunct Professor at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law; Attorney in the MacArthur Justice Center’s Illinois Office; Maartje De Visser, Associate Professor of Law at Singapore Management University; Christine Evans, Adjunct Professor at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law; Irakli Ksovreli, Head of the Legal Provision and Research Department of the Constitutional Court of Georgia; Levan Maisuradze, Expert in constitutional law, Head of the Legal Assurance Group of the Legal Department of the Communications Commission of Georgia.
Among the participants of the summer school, 5 best students were identified: Ms. Tekla Benashvili, Mr. Tamaz Kirtava, Ms. Anano Nachkibia, Ms. Mariam Oniani and Ms. Nino Chedia. Best participants of the school will have the opportunity to start their professional activities through internship and further employment at the Constitutional Court of Georgia.
This year, the Constitutional Court hosted the 15th summer school. As a result of an open competition, 26 best students and graduates of the Faculty of Law from Georgian universities were selected to participate in the summer school.
The summer school was held with the financial participation of the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe: “Strengthening Independence and Professionalism of Justice in Georgia”, as well as the Council of Europe’s project: “Enhancing Implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia” and the USAID Rule of Law Program.
