Avtandil Demetrashvili

Former President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia

Was born on December 21, 1941 in the village of Patara Toneti, Tetritskaro region.

In 1967, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Perm State University. He completed his postgraduate studies at Moscow State University. He was a Candidate of Legal Sciences, Assistant Professor.

He worked at the Militia High School, the Faculty of Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, was the Secretary of the State Constitutional Commission, the Chairman of the Commission for the Development of Constitutional Draft Laws working with the Office of the Head of State, Chief State Advisor, Head of the Department of Modern Legal Systems at Tbilisi State University.

On December 29, 1995, he was appointed a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia by the President of Georgia.

On July 24, 1996, he was elected as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

His term of office as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia expired on July 24, 2001.

He has a wife, two children and three grandchildren.
