Lali Papiashvili
Former Vice President of the Constitutional Court of GeorgiaBorn on January 22, 1972 in Tbilisi.
Graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (1994), defended her thesis on the topic: “The Problem of Protection in the Criminal Justice Process” (1997).
Has completed practice at the law firm GEFFENS (UK).
Since 1998, she has been an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of Tbilisi State University.
In 2004-2007, she was a member of the Parliament of Georgia, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration; First Assistant to the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia (2001-2003); Head of the Staff of the Foreign Relations Committee (2000-2001); Leading Specialist of the Legal Committee; Senior Specialist (1996-2000).
He was a member of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (2004-2007), was elected a member of the Board of the organization “Parliamentarians for Global Action” (USA) and Deputy Head of the “Peace and Democracy Program” (2005-2007).
In 2006-2007, he was a member of the Temporary Investigative Commission investigating the actions of the Russian authorities against Georgian citizens.
In 2006-2011, he was a member of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council for the implementation of measures against human trafficking.
On December 28, 2007, he was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia by the Parliament of Georgia. He began exercising his powers as a judge on December 31, 2007, from the day of taking the oath.
On November 2, 2016, he was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia by the Plenum of the Constitutional Court.
Since 2011, he has been a professor at the Faculty of Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
He was a member of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (2004-2007), was elected as a member of the Board of the organization “Parliamentarians for Global Action” (USA) and as the Deputy Head of the “Peace and Democracy Program” (2005-2007).
He is an honorary citizen of New Orleans (1999); he has received the joint annual award of the Swiss government and the Swiss Institute of International Affairs “Swiss Prize for Leadership in International Relations” (2005); he participated in UNICEF, TACIS, TracCC projects (1997-2002).
He has undergone training in human rights, criminal justice, humanitarian law and legislative techniques at European and American institutions.
He has published about 30 scientific papers.
He is fluent in Russian and English.
