Otar Benidze

Former Vice President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia

Born on October 2, 1951 in the city of Sukhumi. 

In 1981, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University.

He worked at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, the Ministry of Finance of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, as the Head of the Department of the Council of Ministers of Abkhazia, and as the Deputy Minister of Justice of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.

Since May 1992, he has been the Minister of Justice of Abkhazia.

In 1994, by order of the Head of State, he was awarded the title of State Counselor of Justice.

In 1999, by order of the President of Georgia, he was awarded the class rank of judge of the highest qualification class.

On July 2, 1996, he was appointed as a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia by the President of Georgia.

On August 15, 1996, he was elected as the Secretary of the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

From October 6, 1996 to September 28, 2004, he was elected as a Vice President of the Constitutional Court and Chairman of the Second Chamber of the Constitutional Court.

He has a wife, two children and two grandchildren.
