Constitutional Procedures Teaching Forum

Constitutional Procedures Teaching Forum

On January 22, 2024, the Constitutional Court of Georgia hosted the first forum focused on teaching constitutional proceedings. This event was made possible with the support of the USAID Rule of Law Program and the Council of Europe and the European Union joint project “Strengthening Independence and Professionalism of Justice in Georgia"

The forum opened with welcoming addresses from Merab Turava, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia; Giorgi Chkheidze, Chief of Party of the USAID Rule of Law Program; and Giorgi Giorgadze, Senior Project Officer, Council of Europe Office in Georgia.

Representatives of over 20 accredited higher educational institutions in Georgia participated in the event. The primary objective of the forum was to establish an ongoing platform for dialogue between the Constitutional Court of Georgia and the university community. This dialogue aims to enhance the teaching of constitutional proceedings, address specific challenges in teaching, align teaching methodologies and expected outcomes across various universities, and bridge the gap between theory and practical application.

The forum comprised two sessions. The first session focused on sharing experiences among representatives of higher educational institutions and academic staff, providing an opportunity to discuss existing challenges. In the second session,  judges from the Constitutional Court of Georgia: Giorgi Tevdorashvili, Manana kobakhidze and Teimuraz Tughushi shared their insights on teaching constitutional proceedings with forum participants.
